Eagles split doubleheader at Rio Grande

On Sunday, December 9th, both the Women's and Men's teams traveled to the University of Rio Grande to face off against the Red Storm JV squads. The afternoon began with the Women's team tipping off at 1:00 pm. Coach Jay Etter's team, behind the sharp shooting of guard Liz Weaver, came up just short to the Lady Red Storm 75-70. Danyah Barnes added 23 points and 8 rebounds while Hayley Melton added 16 points and 8 rebounds. The Lady Eagles' record sits at 4-5 as they prepare the close out the remaining two games before the holiday break.

The Men's team began the game with a hot start but absorbed a Red Storm comeback, giving the Eagles a narrow 24-21 lead at the end of the first half. Led by Cedric Baldwin's second double-double of the season (19 points, 11 rebounds), the Eagles stormed to a quick 12 point lead with 17 minutes to go in the half. A monstrous secondary transition dunk by Jomar Bailey gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the night, 58-40. Freshman forward Shayne Sims was solid in his production off the bench, pouring in 9 points and snatching 6 boards in his 22 minutes of play.

The Lady Eagles will try to bounce back on Monday, December 10th at Cedarville at 6:00 pm, in the first game of another doubleheader where the Men's team will play with tipoff scheduled for 8:00 pm.
